intercultural
Design means knowledge of relationships. In numerous international and intercultural collaborations we deal with future challenges in product development.
Our aim is to understand cultural differences and similarities and to adapt in product development. We think that we can develop innovative and sustainable systems only through an intensive intercultural exchange.
We continuously carry out analyses, workshops and projects with partners from around the world.
workshop
typography
A workshop with participants from South America and Germany. In this project, students should design forms and typography on the computer, cut with a laser cutter and eventually and print it in classic hand-set .
From the work in a brochure threadbinding was prepared.
summerschool
xiamen
In this project, mixed student teams of the UAS Osnabrück and the Xiamen University developed product concepts as part of a summer school.
The focus was placed on the principle of the upcycling of packaging material.
The aspect of 'cultural charging' was the focus of development: Is everyday waste particularly interesting for designers because it comes from a different culture?
global design
student project
There are fundamental issues that have been raised in the context of globalization:
Can a designer design a product for a country he does not know? Am I able to present a solution to an audience I do not know?
In this project, students should design products for the chinese market and present the results in China. Through such a project you realize the complexity of product development in an intercultural context.

How sustainable are visions of the future?
In this project, the students were invited to outline our future in 10 years.
For this purpose it should first investigate how the future 10 years ago imagined - and reflect critically. For this purpose we visited the site of the EXPO 2000 in Hanover and the current EXPO 2010 in Shanghai.
The results of the project were presented in China and Germany.
